The Elan valley reservoirs are some of the most scenic places to fish in all of Wales, if not the UK. In the steep sided Victorian masonry dammed waters you will find free rising wild and stocked brown trout. Red kites wheel majestically over head, and the fishing is mostly top of the water with floating line.
In addition there are many miles of almost untouched river fishing available – the Wye, Elan, Claerwen and Marteg all hold nice wild trout, and in the case of the Wye and Elan rivers healthy stocks of grayling. The Elan in particular is an unfished gem – when other rivers in the area are in flood, the Elan often stays fishable due to the dams upstream.
To top it off there is also a rainbow trout fishery, Llyn Gwyn, which provides excellent sport from boat and bank all year round.
We recommend you try:
Caban Coch Reservoir, Elan valley. Brilliant Wild trout fishing, step and cast traditionl wets with red kites wheeling overhead. Magical.
